Natia Ser (b. Hong Kong) is an artist and educator whose multidisciplinary practice spans photography, book arts and performance. Currently based in Chicago, she explores notions of intimacy in the itinerant experience to investigate the ambivalence of familiarity and estrangement, longing and belonging. Her interest in superstitions stems from the absence of water in her Chinese horoscope chart and its influence on her cultural upbringing.

Natia holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Thesis in Visual and Critical Studies (Distinction) from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and is an alumnus of Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. She has been awarded the LeRoy Neiman Fellowship from Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists’ Residency, Project Residency at Aurora PhotoCenter, Semifinalist in the 99th ANNUAL International Competition by The Print Center, Finalist in the Luminarts Visual Arts Fellowship and Special Mention Award in the Hong Kong Photozine Award.

Natia’s work has been exhibited internationally, including Hong Kong Photobook Festival, Affordable Art Fair (Hong Kong), Field Projects (New York, NY), Filter Photo (Chicago, IL), Gene Siskel Film Center (Chicago, IL), SITE Galleries (Chicago, IL), OH Art Foundation (Chicago, IL), Perspective Gallery (Evanston, IL) and Awagami International Mini-Print Exhibition (Tokushima, Japan). Her work is held in the Ryerson & Burnham Libraries of the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia University, John M. Flaxman Library, Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection and private collections.
